Paper Tongues Open Up About Tour Challenges, Musical Influences
The first time we saw North Carolina-based Paper Tongues was back in July, when the Randy Jackson-managed seven piece was opening for Jet.
It's been almost three months, and the Tongues have come a long way!
The boys have now toured with everyone from Flyleaf to Our Lady Peace, and are now serving as the opening act for Warped Tour veterans Everclear, which is where we caught up with them again at Highline Ballroom Monday night.
"I almost gave a shoutout to Our Lady Peace [tonight]," frontman Aswan North admitted on-stage. "We're just a bunch of nervous Southern boys. I'll clean your toilets for that [mistake]."
Poison Ivy had a chance to chat with North post-concert, where he confirmed his nerves were no joke.
"I have about three bowel movements before each show," he said.
Nerves aside, North says that one of Paper Tongues biggest challenges is working a stage (often small) with seven band members.
"We study [how] The Roots and Wilco and Linkin Park [perform]," North says. "It helps."
North also cites Journey and Led Zeppelin as musical influences - which is totally audible in their music.
Check out a snippet of our favorite Paper Tongues song, "For The People," above.
Let us know what you think of these guys in the comments!

Everclear Storm New York, Talk 17-Year Career
"Goddamn it it's good to be back, New York," announced frontman Art Alexakis during the band's show at New York's Highline Ballroom Monday night.
The concert was one of Everclear's 18 U.S. tour dates, which kicked off last week in Alabama and serves to support the band's latest record, In A Different Light - a stripped-down, greatest hits affair that comes out today.
The band rocked an energetic, hit-fueled set, playing songs like "Father of Mine," "Strawberry," "Wonderful," "I Will Buy You a New Life," and a rare cover of "Brown Eyed Girl," which Alexakis dedicated to daughter Anna.
"She's taller than me now when she wears her fucking high heels," he admitted.
Poison Ivy got to chat with Alexakis post-show, to watch him greet fans (an everynight occurence), and find out how he keeps things interesting after so many years.
"I reach down deep and get in touch with what made me excited about that song in the first place," Alexakis told us.
"And, it sounds cliche but, every night I meet the fans and that makes it real."
Check out a snippet of Alexakis rocking "Brown Eyed Girl," above.

Lady GaGa Delivers Powerful Equality Speech After SNL Performance
Most musicians would probably be out partying after a Saturday Night Live performance with MF Madonna.
Not Lady GaGa!!
GaGa instead headed to Santos Party House in downtown New York around one in the morning Sunday, and spoke out at a gay rights event, encouraging guests to be a part of the National Equality March in Washington, D.C. October 10-11.
"If everyone in this room brought 10 friends [to the March]," Gaga explained, "just from this one night, there would be 10,000 more people marching."
"I really believe in this cause," she added. "I think that this is really an important weekend, and it's not a fucking joke."
Be sure to watch GaGa's fantastic speech, above.
A special thanks to Josh Wood Productions for putting the event together and letting Poison Ivy be a part of history! Xo
Kate Beckinsale: Sexiest Woman Alive?
Don't get us wrong: Kate Beckinsale is a fox.The woman is beautiful, looks just as good at 36 as she did at 26, stole our hearts during Serendipity, and has a freaking ten-year old. We acknowledge.
But Sexiest Woman of 2009??
Really???
When was Beckinsale's last decent movie? 2006's Underworld? We know it wasn't the nightmare that was Click.
To boot, her most recent film, Whiteout, was called a "studiously mediocre little thriller" by the New York Times. Ouch!
So what's the deal??
We think Sexiest Woman Alive should have gone to someone sexy AND relevant. Maybe someone who's "sexiness" actually got some decent screentime this year!
Our vote would have been the stunning Diane Kruger, who was unapologetic and beautiful in Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. Megan Fox, too, was more deservant of the title than Beckinsale, although we find her acting talents a little less applaudable.
What do u think?
Who deserved the Sexiest Woman Alive title in 2009???
Blink-182 Rock MSG, Give Pete Wentz A Haircut
Saturday was a chaotic night at Madison Square Garden!!!
Following a fantastic show by Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy (one of their last of the tour), Blink frontman Mark Hoppus proceeded to give FOB bassist Pete Wentz a haircut - in front of some 20,000 fans!
"You guys know Jay-Z's 'Death of Auto-Tune'?" Wentz asked the crowd. "This is the death of the Emo haircut."
Hoppus then shaved Wentz's head, before Wentz dove into backing vocals of "Saturday" off of 2003's Take This To Your Grave. Completely unfazed!!
Watch the hilarity, above.

Beyonce Serenades Cancer Ward
This isn't the first time Beyonce has done an amazing deed, but check out her most recent mitzvah: an acoustic performance of "Irreplaceable" at a Singapore children's cancer ward!
B stopped there before performing at the 2nd Annual F1 Concert last week.
Nice work!
Foreigner Return to Their Roots at NYC Show
"This band was founded 13 blocks up on Broadway so it's good to be home," said Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones, before the legendary rockers catapulted into a two-hour set at New York's Nokia Theatre Friday night.Foreigner played everything: "Feels Like The First Time," "Cold As Ice," "Dirty White-Boy," "Hot Blooded," "Waiting For a Girl Like You," and a moving "Starrider" by Jones on vocals.
Fans at the show included some 1,500 die-hards, Jones' step-daughter Charlotte Ronson, and Kirsten Dunst, who sang along from her seat in the balcony.
But alas, no Foreigner set would have been complete without the band's 1984 staple ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is"!
Watch below as frontman Kelly Hansen gets the crowd to sing along. (Not as eloquently as him, unfortch!)

Bethenny Frankel Leaving Real Housewives of New York City?
We must admit.... We had a weird feeling that natural food chef (and Naturally Thin author) Bethenny Frankel was leaving Bravo's Real Housewives of New York City.First, we asked her about all the reporting she was doing for Access Hollywood.
Then, we quoted her talking about a segment she was doing on The Insider.
Life and Style is now reporting that socialite Sonja Morgan will be replacing Frankel on Housewives for season three, although we know "replacement" won't be possible!!
We love Bethenny almost as much as Jill Zarin!!
Update: Phew!! Frankel has taken to her Twitter to dispel the report, writing:
"You heard it here:the rumors about me not being on housewives are false. you're stuck with me!!!xo tweeps"

Lady GaGa/Kanye West Tour Canceled
It was to be the biggest tour of 2009, but for some reason unbeknownst to ANYONE, the Kanye West/Lady GaGa "Fame Kills" tour has been called off!Concert promoters Live Nation have just confirmed the sad news.
Think this has something to do with the ridiculous stint West pulled at last month's VMAs?
Was his damage that irreversible??
