Phoenix Play Intimate Tribeca Gig

What a cool night!

Before we headed to the sex show that was Rihanna's MySpace concert, Poison Ivy trekked to Tribeca's P.C. Richard & Son Theater for an intimate Clear Channel Stripped performance by French rockers Phoenix.

There couldn't have been more than 100 people in the room!!

Phoenix played a phenomenal six-song set, including "Lisztomania," "Lasso," Cadillac commercial jam "1901," and "Playground Love," off of 1999's The Virgin Suicides' soundtrack.

"They asked us to play a cover song," singer Thomas Mars told the crowd.

"We wrote this with our friends in the band Air, so this is half a cover song," Mars clarified, before singing the opening notes of "Playground Love."

Check out a clip of the performance, below.

Rihanna Sexes It Up at MySpace Release Show

Holy hell!!!

Rihanna took the stage at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom Thursday night in NYC for a MySpace Release concert/borderline sex show!

RiRi was celebrating the release of her latest record, Rated R, and that title is accurate!

Rihanna danced blindfolded, whipped a microphone around the stage, and even rubbed herself during a risque performance of "Umbrella."

Fans started lining up around seven a.m. to attend the free show, which included performances of "Live Your Life," "Run This Town," "Russian Roulette," and "Disturbia."

Check out the NSFW video of Rihanna touching herself (at the 00:18 mark), below.

Itzhak Perlman's Concert to End Polio

On Wednesday night, we were honored to attend Rotary International and the New York Philharmonic's Concert to End Polio, featuring one of our favorite violinists Itzhak Perlman.

It's not exactly the genre we're used to covering, but we are used to stepping outside the box and love trying new things!

Joined by conductor Daniel Boico and the New York Philharmonic orchestra, Perlman gave several amazing performances at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall Wednesday: "Tambourin Chinois" by Kreisler, Bruch's "Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor (Op. 26)," and John Williams' "Theme From Schindler's List," to name a few.

We also stuck around for a special post-concert ceremony, in which we got to meet Perlman and watch him be honored with a Rotary International award for his support of the End Polio campaign.

"There is no reason that anybody in this world should have [Polio]," Perlman told the audience. "It's just ridiculous."

"It's very nice of you to give me this momento," the polio survivor added, "But I think that the awards and the recognition should go to the Rotary Club because to say what you're doing is great work is truly an understatement."

Check out a video of Perlman's moving speech, below.

Jay-Z Makes Surprise Appearance at Alicia Keys' World AIDS Day Concert

We can officially cross it off our bucket list.

Poison Ivy got to watch Alicia Keys perform "Empire State of Mind" live with surprise guest Jay-Z Tuesday night at the American Express-sponsored, YouTube-streamed World AIDS Day concert at Nokia Theatre!

Keys broke it down on the piano for a solid hour before Hova showed up - rocking old hits ("Fallin," "You Don't Know My Name,") newer songs ("No One," "Superwoman,") and brand new tunes off her forthcoming record The Element of Freedom.

"14 million children are sleeping with a broken heart cause they've been orphaned by AIDS," Keys said, before playing newest single "Sleeping With a Broken Heart."

Poison Ivy had a chance to go backstage and congratulate Keys following her amazing performance, and also hear her pledge her alliegance to the Worlds AIDS Day organization.

We're not even going to try and explain the pandemonium that ensued when Jay-Z jumped onstage and joined Keys for their brilliant, beyond-triumphant ode to New York, "Empire State of Mind." Just take a look at the video below and see for yourself!

P.S. Bob Dylan truly put it best: "There's nothing about that girl I don't like."

We confess.

We can't stop thinking about the amazing Boys Like Girls/Cobra Starship/The Maine concert Tuesday night at Nokia Theatre!

So much so that we're going to post another clip for your viewing pleasure!

"['Thunder' was] the first song we wrote together as a band," admitted frontman Martin Johnson, before strumming into the first few notes.

Johnson was even so kind as to grab a fan's camera from the audience and film the performance!!

Check out the magic for yourselves, above.

Boys Like Girls Tear Up NYC

"Man I miss playing New York City," says Boys Like Girls frontman Martin Johnson as the band gets onstage at Nokia Theatre Tuesday night.

And it would appear New York missed BLG back!

Hundreds of fans - many of whom started lining up around three a.m. - wrapped around the Times Square venue Tuesday, singing BLG tunes, sharing stories, and getting ready to see the band play with Cobra Starship, The Maine, A Rocket to the Moon and VersaEmerge.

"We just put this record out called Love Drunk," Johnson announced during the show, before rocketing into a slew of new and old hits: "Thunder," "Hero/Heroine," "Heart Heart Heartbreak," "Five Minutes to Midnight," "Shot Heard 'Round the World" and "Love Drunk," to name a few.

Of course we brought back a killer clip: BLG's balls-out opening number of Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" transitioning into "Love Drunk."
