Selena Gomez: "I Changed For a Boy"

"This is our first show in New York City," says a rambunctious Selena Gomez. The 17-year-old is talking to the hundreds of people - mostly children, and their parents - who showed up to watch Selena Gomez and The Scene perform at Gramercy Theatre Thursday night, and she has a couple of stories for the doting crowd.

"I wrote this song because I feel like a lot of people change themselves for - well, let's be honest - a boy," Gomez says, introducing the one track she penned off of 2009's Kiss and Tell, "I Won't Apologize."

"That's what I did," Gomez went on. "I'll never make that mistake again though. I'm sorry I'm not what you wanted me to be, but I'm not going to apologize for who I am."

The speech resonated with some of Gomez's older fans - with one teen sure who who Gomez was referring to. "Nick!" she shouted, referring to Gomez's former flame Nick Jonas. Other fans in the audience were less interested, like a group of ten-year old boys who were thinking long-term: "My-future-wife!" they chanted in unison.

Gomez performed for the crowd for nearly an hour, playing songs like "Falling Down," Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold," and a cover of Backstreet Boys "I Want it That Way."

"Maybe the parents will know this one," Gomez suggested, making us feel like dinosaurs.
