Semi Precious Weapons Preview New Songs, Defend Lady Gaga at Hometown Show

It's a quiet moment at Semi Precious Weapons sold-out Bowery Ballroom show Monday night, and someone in the audience has just screamed "Fuck Lady Gaga."

Frontman Justin Tranter, who has been friends with the pop star for the last five years - not to mention, been invited to tour the world with SPW as her opening act for the last six months - is trying to maintain his composure.

"Thank you for being here at my rock and roll show," Tranter begins, somehow managing to make eyes with the intruder in the audience.

"But if you say the words 'Fuck you Lady Gaga' again, there are probably a hundred kids in here that will murder you."

Tranter then smiles faintly.

"I'm saying this for your safety."

The audience bursts into wild applause - the way they might at the end of a movie when the class bully has been defeated - and SPW retreats into a song: "Put a Diamond in It."

The boys treated the crowd - both old fans and new - to SPW classics like "Can't Pay My Rent But I'm Fucking Gorgeous," "Her Hair is On Fire," and new song "Statues of Ourselves," to be included on their forthcoming record.

"[Statues] is about how all of my friends in New York City are cooler than everyone else," Tranter explained. (Check out a video of that performance here.)

Lady Starlight DJed the show with a fantastic, classic rock-infused set (fourth photo), while Nico Vega and Breedlove served as the opening artists.

"For the three and a half years we've been a band, we couldn't get an opening slot at Bowery Ballroom," Tranter admitted, closing out the show. "And now we just sold it the fuck out."

"We will see you at Madison Square fucking Garden."
