Christina Aguilera Promises "Less Singing" on Next LP

Christina Aguilera sat down with Marie Claire to discuss her forthcoming March LP Bionic - and what the oversinger said might shock you.

"[I'm going] to allow myself to go to a place of less singing," Aguilera told the mag. "I'm more vulnerable and more strong at the same time."

Aguilera added that the first single off the record will be a Tricky Stewart-produced song called "Glam," while other cameos will come from Flo Rida and Santigold. Other tracks, like "Lullaby," were inspired by Aguilera's two-year old son Max.

"[This album] is just about the future," Aguilera says. "My son in my life, motivating me to want to play and have fun."

Say Hello to Matt Lowell

We talked a little smack, but we had so much fun at the Ryan Cabrera concert at Highline Ballroom Monday night.

Perhaps most exciting were Cabrera's fantastic openers Dion Roy and Matt Lowell!

Lowell kind of sounded like if Dave Matthews fronted Kings of Leon - which we were totally into. ("thanks so much! I love both obviously," Lowell Tweeted to us.)

The singer-songwriter's First Taste EP soundtracked a few episodes of The Real World: Brooklyn last year, and his tour roster has included everyone from Sister Hazel to Marcy Playground to Tony Lucca.

"It feels weird being up here, I'm used to being down there," Lowell told the larger venue of 400 people.

We're surprised this kid isn't used to playing huge gigs - at moments, he backed away from his mic and that voice could fill a stadium!!!

Check out Lowell's cover of The Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody" (with Amber Rubarth), above.

Ryan Cabrera Tells Stories at New York Gig

"I've grown up a lot since Take It All Away," says Ryan Cabrera. He's trying to persuade the 400-something people at New York's Highline Ballroom that he's matured since his debut album came out back in 2004, but we're not convinced!

Cabrera, 27, first emerged on the music scene in early 2004 with hits "On the Way Down" and "True," but the singer-songwriter is arguably best known as the ex-boyfriend of singer/actress Ashlee Simpson. (The couple were featured extensively on The Ashlee Simpson Show for two seasons prior to their break-up.)

"I apologize to every one of you who can see," Cabrera said at Monday night's show. "(My hair) is getting so high I can barely even do it."

The singer then catapulted into radio favorite "Shine On" off of 2005's You Stand Watching.

Cabrera treated the crowd to tons of throwbacks: "40 Kinds of Sadness," 2008's "Say," even a beatboxing version of "Exit to Exit." But the wildest moment of the night came when Cabrera admitted that he tried to convince one audience a few weeks ago that his song "Photo" was actually written about his dog.

"They were all, awww, until I got to the chorus," Cabrera remarked, citing the physical nature of the lyrics (Sample: "What it's like to know you/what it's like to touch you.")

Verrry grown up!

Video: Kevin Jonas' Winter Wedding

Access Hollywood has compiled footage from Kevin Jonas' wedding to long-time girlfriend Danielle Deleasa last month, and it's absolutely gorgeous!

The pair got hitched at Long Island's Oheka Castle Dec. 19 using a Winter Wonderland theme, while brothers Nick and Joe served as best men.

Joe even hits the dancefloor for a rendition of "Single Ladies"!

Check out the magic, above.

Elvis Costello Cast in Stephen King/John Mellencamp Musical

Elvis Costello is the most recent cast addition to the forthcoming Stephen King/John Mellencamp musical, Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.

The play will focus on "domestic turmoil" and already features an all-star cast, including Neko Case, Sheryl Crow, Rosanne Cash, and Kris Kristofferson.

T-Bone Burnett will produce a three-disc soundtrack to accompany the musical, and Costello will play "the role of a Satanic character."

Lol!

Look for the play this September at Atlanta's Alliance Theater.

Jay-Z Releases Artsy "On To The Next One" Video

Jay-Z released an artsy, all black-and-white video for latest single "On To The Next One" at midnight on New Year's Eve, citing that it would be the "first video of the decade."

What do you think of Hova's "art"?

Kanye West Back in the Studio

Kanye West has taken to his blog to announce (in all caps, of course) that he is back in the studio.

The five-year old rapper writes:
"FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR THEIR CONSTANT LOVE AND SUPPORT OVER THESE PAST 6 YEARS! I'M SO HAPPY TO BE BACK IN THE STUDIO MAKING NEW MUSIC. I WILL BRING YOU THE BEST I HAVE TO OFFER WITH THE SAME DEDICATION THAT KOBE HAS ON THE COURT. IT'S FUNNY HOW SO MANY RAPPERS GET WORSE AS THEIR CAREERS STRETCH OUT BUT TRUE POETS GET BETTER. WE WILL FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MAYA ANGELOU, GILL SCOTT HERRON AND NINA SIMONE. THEIR WORK IMPROVED WITH TIME. THEY DOCUMENTED WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN CULTURE. THAT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS THE MODERN DAY ARTISTS AND POETS, TO ACCURATELY REPRESENT WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW, SO WHEN THE POWERS THAT BE TRY TO REWRITE HISTORY YOU CAN ALWAYS LOOK AT OUR WORKS AND FIND TRUTH AND SINCERITY IN A WORLD OF PROCESSED INFORMATION. LET US SOAK IN POSITIVE FORCES AND LOOK DOWN ON UPON THOSE WHO MASQUERADE AS TRUTH TELLERS AND OBJECTIVE FACT GIVERS WHEN IN REALITY EVERYTHING THAT IS PROJECTED HAS AN AGENDA OF BRAINWASHING US, THE "CONSUMER", THE PUBLIC, TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY WANT US TO. LET US LOOK PAST HEADLINES AND DEAL WITH JUST A BIT OF REALITY IN THIS NEW DECADE. WE HAVE OUR OWN OUTLETS NOW. WE DON'T HAVE TO BELIEVE EVERYTHING ANYMORE. NOW I'LL FIGURE OUT A WAY TO MAKE THAT RYHME LOL!!!"
Hmmm.....

Does anybody still care what West has to say?

NYC Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex Closes Down

Only a year after opening, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in New York's SoHo neighborhood has closed down.

The music museum cited the economy and a poor year for city tourism as its reasons for closing shop.

While we're very sad to say goodbye, Poison Ivy will always treasure our great nights at the Annex - watching Debbie Harry perform at the opening in December 2008 (pictured), interviewing the GaGalicious Semi-Precious Weapons after their concert in April, and covering the John Lennon exhibit back in May.

Xoxo
