Brian Wilson Celebrates Gershwin in NYC

Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson has been making music for more than 50 years. So it's pretty remarkable that his latest effort - a gorgeous, 14-track compilation where he "reimagines" George Gershwin's finest for Disney Pearl - is so cutting edge.

Poison Ivy had the opportunity to check out the record - and chat with Wilson - at an intimate listening party at New York's Core Club Tuesday night.

"In a sea of Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana records, I've found something that completely rocks my world," Disney's Vice President of Marketing Rob Souriall told the crowd of some 100 friends and fans.

Souriall has a point.

Marrying light-hearted California crooning with Gershwin's timeless New York classics, Wilson has created an elegant, pop-rocking affair that bookends with the cinematic "Rhapsody in Blue," builds hope with the re-constructed "The Like in I Love You," sambas in "'S Wonderful," and invents new levels of catchy in "They Can't Take That Away From Me."

Off in a corner, David Letterman's bassist Will Lee was grinning like a mad man.

Of course, the creation couldn't have sounded too bad - nothing ever does - when blasted from a Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeaker that retails at just under $200K.

Rolling Stone Executive Editor Jason Fine, a close friend of Wilson's who introduced Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin to the audience Tuesday night, may have put it best:

"[Wilson] is a man of few words, but his music says everything."

Lady Gaga Earns 13 VMA Nominations

Lady Gaga has earned a record-breaking 13 nominations for this year's 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, trailed only semi-closely by Eminem, who received eight nods.

"God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos, and cause a damn raucous," Gaga said when she learned of the noms.

"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history," Gaga added.

"Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13."

Gaga is nominated for Video of the Year, Best Dance Music Video for "Bad Romance," Best Female Video and Best Pop Video, while Eminem is up for Video of the Year for "Not Afraid" and Best Hip-Hop Video for his cameo in Drake's "Forever."

B.o.B. also scored five nominations, while Usher and Ke$ha received three.

She's talking to the thousand-something folks who gathered at Casio's Shock the World 2010 event at The Manhattan Center Monday, for whom the singer is designing a pair of watches, due next summer.

"I am here to rock out with my co-- out, and I invite all of you to join me," she tells the crowd during her post-conference concert.

Ke$ha performed a slew of singles for the crowd, while flailing around the stage in glittery booty shorts, including "Blah Blah Blah," "Tik Tok," "Your Love is My Drug," and new single "Take It Off."
