Inside The Fray's intimate NYC show

It's a great night to be a Fray fan in New York.

The multi-platinum rockers played a very intimate, private show to 200 of their closest fans at the iHeartRadio Theater Friday night, rocking tracks like "How to Save a Life," "You Found Me," and "Run For Your Life."

"Piano player on a guitar, you never know what's going to happen," frontman Isaac Slade joked after he switched instruments for a performance of "Over My Head (Cable Car)."

The band's new record, Scars & Stories, will be available Feb. 7.

Darren Criss Succeeds in Making Us Cry

On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to catch a game-changing performance of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying featuring the incomparable Darren Criss!

But last night, ~~Blaine~~ Darren impressed us even more by bidding farewell to fans after the final performance of his three-week stint.

"For many years in New York City, I've been coming to every theater in this town," Criss told the hundreds who were waiting in the cold.

"I've waited outside hours for people, but I have never seen or felt the energy that has been given to me at all these shows."

We're kind of glad we weren't there, because we would have cried?

A very FATT New Year's Eve

Soul rockers Fitz and the Tantrums took New York by storm Saturday night, playing a beyond sold-out NYE show at Gramercy Theatre.

FATT played nearly two hours for the sequined and champagned crowd, even tackling a cover of U2's "New Year's Day" right before midnight.

"I hope you took [pictures] because that's never going to happen again," frontman Michael Fitzpatrick joked from the stage.

FATT is one of our favorite bands of 2011, so we wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else!!

"I know ya'll are pretty gangster down here," Rihanna told 15,000 screaming fans at Uniondale, New York's Nassau Coliseum Tuesday night.

The Barbadian beauty was seated on the edge of the stage, trying to prepare her guests for the unpreparable: a surprise cameo by Kanye West that included performances of "All of the Lights" and "Run This Town."

"I want to give a big shout-out to my mom and my grandma in the house tonight," Riri added nonchalantly.

"I like to say I'm a bad bitch, but they're badder bitches than me. I'm scurred of them."

The NIVEA-sponsored tour exhibited Rihanna's factory of hits with no shortage of costumes: "Disturbia" in a sequined bikini, "Unfaithful" in a flowy canary number, "S&M" as part of a metallic pillow fight, "Rude Boy" and "What's My Name" in an oversized floppy headband, and "Hard" in a cape that made this blogger consider storming the dressing room.

J. Cole fittingly served as the opening artist, reminiscing a freakier Chris Brown ("God bless the homegirl that drove us home/no strings attached like a cordless phone," he sang during "In the Morning"), while NIVEA hooked superfans up with temporary tattoos and bloggers with mac-and-cheese-stocked skyboxes.

It's a great night to be a New Yorker!

Cirque Du Soleil invaded Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the premiere of their latest show Zarkana, an operatic, dark, height-defying production not for the faint of heart!

Joining Cirque for the fun were (from top) Selita Ebanks, Gayle King, Adrienne Bailon, Judah Friedlander, Jill Zarin and Kelly Bensimon.

We also caught Regis Philbin marveling inside with wife Joy!

Randy Jackson: 'I think you'll see us all back'

Music mogul Randy Jackson celebrated the big 55 Thursday, and Poison Ivy snagged him for a couple of questions at his Lacoste Penthouse birthday party.

"I think you'll see us all back," Jackson told P.I., confirming that American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will be returning for a second season.

"I know there's some negotiations to be had but I believe you'll see us all back."

"It's never about trying to be like someone else," Jackson added, of the comparisons that he was acting like the new Simon Cowell.

"I am me. I'm still the dawg. I do what I do. I'm just trying to be me."

Jackson coupled the party with a performance series by three of his breaking artists - sultry four-piece Brunette, Black Eyed Peas-esque DaCav5 and Moscow pop import Grace V.

"He pushes me to work harder," Grace told Poison Ivy, on her mentor Jackson.

"He's kind and nice, but always honest. He won't tell you anything but the truth. He's like a father."

Kel and Mel have been dating for almost a month, a source close to P.I. says, and by the looks of it, things are heating up!

Kel wouldn't leave his lady's side the entire night at Dream, where Solange Knowles was DJing and folks like Leonardo DiCaprio and Irina Shabayeva circled the floor. When Lutz was stopped for autographs on the couple's way out, he made it a point to glance at her and make sure she was OK!

The sighting comes one month after Lutz was photographed with on-again, off-again girlfriend AnnaLynne McCord in Manhattan.

"I'm single," he told PopEater ten days later.

Perhaps even more fun than watching the performances was watching Mother Monster in between songs - practicing "Hair" while she arranged blonde wigs atop a unicorned piano. (This will be the only time you read this sentence in life.)

Kelly Clarkson opens up at Confide + Conquer benefit

10 years after winning her American Idol crown, Kelly Clarkson took the stage at the Confide and Conquer benefit at Manhattan's Highline Ballroom Wednesday night - the same night that Scotty McCreery was crowed winner of season 10.

"I was going for Lauren Alaina but that's cool," Clarkson said casually when an audience member announced the results to her.

The hour-and-half set - sponsored by Tupperware to benefit Boys & Girls Club - included tracks "Because of You," "Breakaway," "Miss Independent," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," and "Since You've Been Gone."

"I love songs that are so depressingly pretty," Clarkson admitted.

"That probably says something about me psychologically."

"I have horrible radar," the pop star added.

"I find the one butt in the room and I'm like, 'I'm gonna date you!' And then I'm gonna write a song about you and make millions!"

Ha!

Clarkson was then asked out on a date by a female fan in the audience.

"For the last time, I'm not a lesbian!" she replied.

"I like boys. Sometimes I wish I didn't but I do."

Caron Drug & Alcohol Treatment Centers is one of the oldest, largest single-site treatment facilities in the country, so we were absolutely humbled to be invited to their annual gala at Cipriani Wednesday!

The event focused on raising money for scholarships to Caron, while also honoring several musicians for their contributions to the cause.

"A lot of musicians are alcoholics and addicts," said Dr. John, during a recognition speech.

"I'm one."

Patti LaBelle also spoke at the ceremony, being honored with the Caron Creative Artist’s Award for her philanthropic spirit.

Arizona pop-rockers The Maine brought a sense of charm and sensibility to Ft. Lauderdale’s Revolution Wednesday night, offering up life lessons to the teens and twenty-somethings in the crowd.

"Life is very precious," singer John O'Callaghan said.

"Graduate from school, and please, somebody in this room become president."

The rockers, now in their 4th year together, seemed to be tighter than ever during the show, belting tracks from 2010’s Black and White ("Listen to your heart," "Don’t Stop Now"), a slowed-down "Everything I Ask For," and a few unreleased tracks.

Guitarist Jared Monaco even threw in a guitar solo from Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me!"

Kanye West hit the Museum of Modern Art's annual Garden Party Tuesday night, helping raise $4 million during an exhilarating hour-long set that included a surprise performance by Jay-Z!

The boys performed "H·A·M" and "Empire State of Mind" together, while West's set-list included tracks like "Power," "Gold Digger," "Monster," and a cover of Stevie Wonder's "They Won't Go When I Go."

But no West show would be complete without an auto-tune-fueled rant... This you know.

Jared Leto talks Hurricane with Neil Strauss

"It's nice to know there are this many perverts alive and well," Jared Leto told some 300 fans who gathered at the Museum of Sex Tuesday night in New York.

The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman was joined by his bandmates and The Game author Neil Strauss to host a Q&A about "Hurricane" - the band's 13-minute, New York-shot music video that was banned on many networks for featuring uncensored clips of bondage, S&M, nudity and bible burning.

"It's really nothing you wouldn't seen on an episode of the Jersey Shore," Leto told the crowd of shrieking twenty-somethings.

"It was important for us to address sexuality, because sexuality, whether you accept it or deny it, is an important part of all of us," Leto added.

Strauss, moderating the Q&A, invited fans with questions to first admit their own sexual fantasy.

"My [fantasy] is to push people to transcend their own boundaries," Strauss said.

After a thunderous applause that left people in chatters, Leto spoke up to quiet down the crowd.

"Some people want to hear. If you don't, go to the back and stick a dildo up your ass."

"I just think if parents looked at their kids' video games, there'd be more destruction and violence than this little film could ever even imagine. If they're so concerned with protecting people they should look in their own backyard," Leto said.

When asked what Leto thinks of people who find his film offensive, the actor offered this:

"If you love it, great. If you don't, ok. Fuck off."

Lady Gaga helped The Robin Hood Foundation raise $47.4 million at its annual New York gala Monday night at the Javits Center in New York!

The sum will work to fight poverty in the city, as well as provide aid to Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans and National Reservists.

The night was hosted by NBC's Brian Williams, while Gaga performed tracks like "Born This Way," "Speechless," "Bad Romance," and a cover of Nat King Cole's "Orange Colored Sky." In the crowd were folks like Sarah Jessica Parker, Martha Stewart and Ron Howard, who also enjoyed performances by Tony Bennett and Kid Rock.

Cyndi Lauper was feeling very passionate at the "RLife Live" True Colors Fund event Thursday at the R Lounge in the Renaissance Hotel in New York, where she spoke candidly and emotionally about gay rights with Poison Ivy.

"Things got really rough in a certain administration, and they started preaching hate," Lauper told P.I.

"All my friends from the [LGBT] community were talking about leaving our country. And at that point, I decided, we have to do something. We have to stand up for each other. We need to have our country, which is the land of the free and the brave enough to be free. Either we are all free or we are not. You can't say freedom for all, except for you guys over there. Because once you start doing that, everybody's rights are up for grabs. That's what people forget. Look at the history. That's how it starts. A scapegoat, always another scapegoat. But this community is always [a] scapegoat, and it should not be. These are people who work beside us, they are members of our family, they are our friends, and they contribute so much to our country. I have a lot of passion about this. Very concerned about politicians targeting the lowest common denominator, as opposed to our highest purpose, using fear, racism and homophobia, and lack of education to rule the masses."

"I don't want to tell people what to think, but I want them to think," Lauper concluded.

"There's so much to say about Hamish. Hamish is a true Renaissance man. He is always ready for anything. And because he will do anything, Anna [Wintour] asked him to do everything. She has sent him to boot camp, to outdoor survival camp, to play basketball with Amar'e [Stoudemire] from New York Knicks... The Click Five have announced a nine-date East coast May tour in support of their forthcoming record TCV, with support by Atomic Tom, Jesse Ruben and Alexis Babini.

The trek will land at New York's Rebel May 19.

"I certainly wouldn't be invited to this without Amy Poehler, so that's a big step. Mostly just like providing coattails for me to ride on for years. That's pretty key; that influenced me a lot."

Poison Ivy attended the American Express and Cinema Society premiere of the extremely buzzed-about Last Night Monday at the BMCC Tribeca PAC, where we were joined by the likes of (from top) Eva Mendes, Russell Simmons, Miss USA Rima Fakih, director Massy Tadjedin, Griffin Dunne, Rachel Roy, Nina Dobrev, designer Christian Cota, American Express's VP of Global Sponsorship and Event Marketing Jessica Igoe, and Good Day New York anchor Rosanna Scotto.

Last Night, Tadjedin's directorial debut, "follows a married couple (Sam Worthington and Keira Knightley), apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague (Mendes) to whom he's attracted. While he's resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love."

"I'd like to apologize to any married couples who came here tonight," Mendes told the crowd during a Q&A following the film.

"It's not going to be a fun ride home."

Brody spent the entire night by his girl's side, holding hands, kissing, and whispering to her over the loud music. She made sure to engage in conversation with his friends every so often - it definitely seemed like she was playing the girlfriend part!
